For retail investors and small businesses evaluating DeFi, the practical question is therefore not whether ETH or SOL had a green day. It is whether on-chain markets are producing useful, durable demand for capital.

Token appreciation can flatter DeFi metrics

A rising native token can make an ecosystem appear healthier before any new money arrives.

A productive yield should remain understandable if the governance token stops rising. If the strategy only works because the reward asset appreciates, it is closer to a directional trade than a cash-flow product.

Liquidity migration has several layers

Capital does not simply move “into DeFi.” It moves between chains, assets, protocols and risk structures.

A user may bridge stablecoins to another network without depositing them into a protocol. A trader may transfer collateral to an on-chain derivatives venue while reducing positions elsewhere. A market maker may move liquidity to a pool offering incentives, then withdraw as soon as those rewards decline.

Even stablecoin growth requires interpretation. US-accessible DeFi is not the same as risk-free or unrestricted DeFi. Interfaces may limit access, but smart contracts, front ends and token distributions can involve different legal and operational considerations.

Before supplying capital, users should determine whether they are interacting with a protocol directly or through an intermediary. They should also understand who controls upgrade keys, how governance changes are implemented and whether emergency administrators can pause withdrawals or alter risk settings.

Basic diligence should include:

- Confirming the official contract and interface - Identifying the source of advertised yield - Checking withdrawal terms and available exit liquidity - Reviewing collateral and liquidation parameters - Understanding exposure to bridges and wrapped assets - Separating token incentives from fee-based returns - Avoiding leverage that depends on stable borrowing costs

Price strength is an invitation to investigate
